The Veterans Education Project (VEP) is proud to applaud the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity for advancing a powerful slate of legislation aimed at improving veterans’ access to education and training opportunities. Among the bills passed is H.R. 1423, the Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act of 2025, which VEP has championed for multiple sessions of Congress. This legislation ensures every day in uniform counts toward Post-9/11 GI Bill eligibility.
As the role of the Guard and Reserve continues to grow across a wide range of missions at home and abroad, this bill appropriately recognizes their increased contributions and ensures that their service is valued and supported on par with their Active-Duty counterparts.
The Subcommittee also approved a number of other important bills that will modernize and expand veteran education pathways:
- H.R. 913, the Streamlining Aviation for Eligible Veterans Act of 2025
- H.R. 980, the Modernizing the Veterans On-Campus Experience Act
- H.R. 1527, the Reforming Education for Veterans Act
- H.R. 1793, the Veterans Readiness & Employment (VR&E) Transparency Act
- H.R. 1458, the Veterans Education and Technical Skills (VETS) Opportunity Act
VEP submitted a formal Statement for the Record in March in support of these bills, highlighting their potential to expand opportunity, reduce barriers, and modernize veteran education benefits.
These bills reflect a shared, bipartisan commitment to expanding access, increasing flexibility, and ensuring transparency across veteran education and training programs. From improving the VA’s on-campus counseling resources to making flight training and hybrid learning models more accessible, these measures are smart, targeted solutions to real-world challenges.

These bills now move to the full House Veterans’ Affairs Committee for further consideration, and VEP will continue to advocate for their swift passage into law.
