VEP Supports New Slate of Education and Transition Legislation at House Hearing

Yesterday, the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity held a legislative hearing on a comprehensive package of bills aimed at enhancing access to education, facilitating a smoother transition to civilian life, and expanding support for veterans and their families. The Veterans Education Project (VEP) submitted a Statement for the Record in support of these proposals, many of which reflect long-standing priorities that VEP has championed.

Among the most impactful is H.R. 3752, the Expanding Access for Online Veteran Students Act, which would restore full Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) for veterans enrolled in full-time remote education programs. This legislation ensures parity and fairness for non-traditional learners, including many veterans, who choose flexible, remote formats. Other bills addressed rising education costs, expanded access to STEM scholarships, improved vocational rehabilitation services, and enhanced the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) for separating servicemembers.

VEP supports the following bills considered at yesterday’s hearing:

These proposals represent real progress in delivering timely, relevant, and equitable support to those who serve and their families.

“Today’s hearing marks real progress on issues that directly impact the daily lives of veterans,” said VEP Executive Director Donald Franklin. “We look forward to working with lawmakers to turn these bills into law and ensure that education and transition benefits continue to meet the needs of today’s veteran community.”
